When we are younger and time is not such a burden
I will lift you up and carry you home to the place we both began
There in the safety of this womb we will sleep forevermore
We will put away the baggage that we were too strong to give up
And with the levity of forgiveness I will find the words to thank you
The sleep that collects in the corners of my eyes and the sweat upon my brow
Will both be wiped away without appreciation for their inspiration
We do not save these creations our bodies worked so diligently upon
Such things we take for granted that they will appear again
So I ask, what if our tears were finite, if our thoughts were few,
If the pain I felt for the lies I told passed in the night like another forgotten dream?
Would the lessons still be learned, would there still be stories to tell?
These things we carry, we carry not out of responsibility to the past
But for hope of the future
